Weight control case studies and helping your cat lose weight
With a loving owner taking care of them, most cats don’t need to work for their food – and there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as they can remain at a healthy cat weight through proper nutrition and lots of play.
We chose Macey with her owner Martin, and Jess with his owner Karen, to take part in a nine month Size Matters programme. Both cats were given a tailored programme to help them get back in shape and stay that way, and it was all done under the careful supervision of Purina’s resident vet and animal behavioural expert, with help from the Purina PetCare Team too. Read on to find out how Macey and Jess got on, and see if they got down to a healthy cat weight!

Our first feline volunteer, Macey the English garden cat, weighed 4.7kg when she started the Purina Size Matters programme. This made her 24% over her goal weight of 3.8kg, which meant she was far from her ideal size! When her owner Martin Stevens noticed her low hanging belly, he knew it was time to help her slim down.
We devised a tailored programme for Macey’s individual needs, including the best cat food for weight loss that would suit her, and plenty of exercise to help her use up some energy. Read about Macey’s journey towards a healthy cat weight and see how she got on!
At the end of the programme Macey weighed 4.3kg and had a body condition score of 5.5, which is close to ideal!

When Karen Scott lost weight and felt significantly healthier for it, she decided it was time to do the same for Jess, her ginger tabby cat! Initially weighing 8.2kg, Jess was a massive 61% over his goal body weight, which meant he was classed as clinically obese. Find out how they got on after nine months on the programme!
Jess currently weighs an encouraging 7.8kg, with a body condition score of 7-8.
